2007-02-20 11:52amAs regular visitors will have noticed, there have been a lot of changes lately.
2007-02-12 09:10amIt has been a while since there have been any updates, 3 weeks to be exact.
2007-01-15 11:31amThanks for voting! I will make the categories sort by rating soon.
2007-01-05 11:28amAdded an image rating system.
As those of you on the dmb mailing list will have noticed, I have been keeping to my schedule of updating
once every business day (though due to the fact that my timezone is ahead of everyone (I live in New Zealand) it
will probably seem like I am updating Sunday to Thursday instead of Monday to Friday).
I have just done some restructuring. I've taken all the gaming related backgrounds and made a Gaming category.
As the database grows I will do this from time to time in order to make the category descriptions more accurate.
In the near future I will also add sub-categories because I don't want the front page to get too long.
I hope you are enjoying the frequency of updates, and as always thanks for voting and commenting on the images, it
really does make the site much better!

I've just finished the new search page. It is no longer going through Google, it's the dmb database
search. So now it has nifty sorting and filtering abilities like:
- You can order the results by
- Most recent
- Alphabetically
- Rating
- Popularity
- You can choose which category youwant to search, or by default it searches all of them at once.
- This is probably the most useful feature; you can choose which resolution you want displayed.
Please note that for those of you on resolutions smaller than 3200x1200 (1600x1200x2) it might still be
useful to search for images at resolutions higher than yours. This is because some of the images on this
site have more than one resolution. The search only displays the highest resolution of each background.
The search has so many features I'm not sure if I have bugtested it thoroughly enough, so please email
me if you find it isn't working properly and I will probably fix it before you have even left the site.
I will be adding some of the functions to the category pages, such as the ability to choose which
resolution is displayed as well as the ability to sort the order of the results.
I'm very keen to make this website as good as it can possibly be, so please email me with any bugs, or
even better, any suggestions you may have. Thanks!

I hope you're all liking all the new backgrounds I've been adding lately. Some have been from other
artists but most have been made by me using royalty-free stock photography from various places.
The reason is mostly because I wanted to populate my other two sites tmb and qmb (links at the bottom
of every page on this site) and there aren't very many backgrounds available for four screens.
I have always made backgrounds for this site but recently I have been making even more and that
will continue for a while.
I very much recommend you join the mailing list or track the RSS feed. All three sites have separate ones
so if you have 3 screens you won't be notified of backgrounds for 2 or 4 screens. Unless of course you want
to be, there is no reason why you can't subscribe to all 3 mailing lists and/or RSS feeds at once.
Yesterday I also added the navigation buttons to the category pages. So instead of all the image
thumbnails showing up on one page (which for categories like Abstract was getting to be a very long
page) now they are split up nicely into separate pages which each show 20 thumbnails.
I hope that makes it easier for you guys. And remember they are sorted in order of rating, so if
you really like an image and want it to be on the first page of it's category so that other people
can find it faster, just vote for it and the change in it's position will be instantaneous.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you like the changes and keep coming back as more are always happening!

Some of you may have noticed the server was down for a little while yesterday. I apologise for that, I
hope it didn't inconvenience you too much.
Since I started this site I have been upgrading hosting plans regularly, and today I have upgraded to
a semi-dedicated plan. That should hold for a while. I am delighted at the popularity of the site and
am more than happy to keep upgrading in order to keep it running. I love the feedback I'm getting from
the multi monitor community! So many people are linking to my sites and supporting it by submitting
backgrounds to me via email, it really is awesome.
I'd like to thank the people at my web hosting company Lonex, I have used them for years and as always
they have been so great through all this, they even unfroze my account while my sites were being
switched to the new server. Thanks guys, you have a loyal customer here!
While the server was being upgraded I created several new backgrounds from royalty-free stock photography
I found on the 'net, I hope you guys like all the new stuff, I have many more lined up as well.
Of course tmb is now also upgraded, and I have added many new backgrounds to that as well.
qmb will be online very soon, as well as the other site I mentioned two news posts ago.
2007-03-20 06:52pm
I finally finished putting tmb - Triple Monitor Backgrounds online today
Don't worry though, I intend to spend an equal amount of time on both sites, so this will still be
regularly updated. Thanks for stopping by!
2007-03-19 02:11pm
I've added an RSS feed and mailing list to the main page. They are both run through RSSPect, an awesome,
free service which I thoroughly recommend.
So now you have two easy ways to be notified when images are added to the site without actually visiting
the site, I hope you like them and it makes it easier to keep up with all the updates.
I only have one more thing to do, which is to fix the "prev" and "next" links on the category pages, then
I will be finally launching tmb for those of you who have three monitors (or a Radius 320!)
I have added over 30 backgrounds in the last 2 days, and I have a huge backlog of backgrounds to add in the
coming days. As always, all comments are appreciated!
Once I have tmb and qmb online I will be launching a 4th website which will be for multiple monitors.
It will have news, reviews, tutorials, and will be the central link between the 3 background sites.
There are also the updated search features on the way, but they can wait until the other things are done.
Most pages are indexed by the internal search at the moment anyway, so it works great for now.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you drop by again soon as this site never sits still! :)
2007-03-07 10:32am
I've added links to digg and del.icio.us. Hopefully this can make the site more popular as well as being
useful and, I guess, fun(?) for the people who use those services a lot. I use digg quite a bit.
So please support the site by digging and deliciousing (sorry, not up with the slang) it!
Also I've added a News Archive section, just so that this page will only ever have the latest 5 news items
and the other one can be for historians and the like.
2007-03-05 02:04pm
I've just changed two things. The first is that now the categories don't have multiple pages, so you
can see all the thumbnails in a category at once. When the site is much larger I will revisit this.
The next is that the categories are sorted by rating now, from highest to lowest.
That means that all of you finally have the power to change how popular an image is; the rating system
is much more practical now.
Later this week (hopefully) I will add different filtering and sorting functions. If my plans for the options
don't change between now and then, you can expect to see the ability to filter out all images except those
at your resolution, and you will be able to sort the categories by several critera, like rating, alphabetically
and by the date they were added.
I am also, in the near future, going to make it possible to view only art from a certain artist. This will
probably be a feature to add to the Search page.
2007-03-04 10:02pm
Well on Google it is fluctuating between 2nd and 3rd place, but that's still great considering how
new the site is, and how often I change it around which of course causes search engines to think there
are broken links!
This is another quick update, just to say I've updated the template I use for the site (which is
called zenphoto, link at the bottom of each page) and that update has significantly relieved pressure
on my server.
What this means for me is that I won't be getting any more emails that I've exceeded the CPU limit for
my hosting company (called Lonex, as long as I'm name-dropping, they're really great) and what it means
for you is that the site will load much faster!
You may've also noticed there are a fair amount of new backgrounds in the Music section, I made them
so it's good to know dmb is increasing its collection of unique backgrounds you won't find anywhere
else. Anyway, keep enjoying the site, I'm loving the increases in traffic and I hope it continues as
the site continues to grow!
2007-02-28 06:29pm
Just a quick one here. dmb is doing well with search engines for the query "dual monitor backgrounds"
On Yahoo it's number one, same with Microsoft's Live Search, and it's 2nd on Google. Very cool.
2007-02-28 12:44am
I've just erased the Games section (those backgrounds are now in Popular Culture) and
created a new section called Music.
Coming up with categories is hard, by the way. So much overlapping. If you think you
can come up with a better typographical system than this one, please let me know, I'm
serious. I do feel like these categories are good enough, but I'm very open to suggestions.
2007-02-26 06:48pm
Google has started to index the image pages of this site, which is great news
because now the internal search is giving results.
Many of you will have also noticed that on the image pages I have added dark red
containers, hopefully it makes the pages even more easy to follow.
As always, much more to come!
2007-02-23 03:35pm
Today I have added the very useful (I think) Recently Added feature.
The purpose of course is so that you only need to go to the first page in order to
see if there have been backgrounds added since your last visit.
I hope this saves everyone time and encourages you to bookmark the site to check
regularly! I've added quite a few backgrounds today, I hope you like them.
Also I have registered the websites
Triple Monitor Backgrounds
and
Quad Monitor Backgrounds
because I
keep coming across backgrounds made for 3 and 4 monitors that are really cool!
For the moment the websites are just "coming soon" pages, but I will post here
when they are functional.
Please keep sending your comments and backgrounds (dmb's, tmb's and qmb's now) and suggestions
It's great hearing from people who are interested in the site. It's what makes this worthwhile
2007-02-20 11:52am
As regular visitors will have noticed, there have been a lot of changes lately.
This will continue! Hopefully they will all be good.
If you see a change and you don't think it's good, email me (link is at the bottom of each page)
and tell me what you don't like. Suggestions are also very welcome.
I make this website in order to provide a much-needed service and I intend to make it as good
as it can possibly be.
New additions to the site are the new menu style, this news archive you're reading right now,
the banners/buttons page so that you can link back to dmb (many thanks to those of you who have
already!) and a new advertising space at the bottom of each page, thanks to Project Wonderful
which is run by one of my favourite webcomic makers, Ryan North of Dinosaur Comics and Whispered
Apologies. We have some great ads up at the moment, all personally approved by me.
Most importantly, I've been adding new backgrounds all the time by many talented artists who are
being extremely supportive of this new website. Thanks guys and gals.
There are many more features and of course backgrounds to come, so I hope you stop by again :)
2007-02-12 09:10am
It has been a while since there have been any updates, 3 weeks to be exact.
I've been on holiday, had a great time, and now I'm back and ready to really get this site going.
I'm aware of the search problem, and how I can fix it, so I am making that priority for now. Thanks!
2007-01-15 11:31am
Thanks for voting! I will make the categories sort by rating soon.
There are many more great dual monitor backgrounds on the way, too.
Some of you have noticed the search doesn't quite work yet. It will as soon as Google indexes more pages.
